Song of the week: “Memphis Tennessee” done here by the great Sandy Bull. Last week’s track featured Bruce Langhorne on electric guitar. According to Richie Unterberger, Langhorne once borrowed Sandy Bull’s Fender Twin Reverb amp and thus discovered his signature sound; you can hear a similarity in style, and both were indebted to the playing and tremolo/reverb of Pops Staples. My introduction to Sandy Bull came when Galaxie 500 actually played right after him at a CMJ convention show at CBGB’s Record Canteen.

The late night demo party continues at full force in Memphis, TN. More to come.
There’s something wonderful about Marvin Bileck’s minimal illustrations for All About the Stars.
Something wonderful? EVERYTHING wonderful.
